Introduction to Surah Maryam (Mary) with Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi- Tafhim al-Qur'an - The Meaning of the Qur'an

]

Name

It takes its name from v. 16.

Period of Revelation

It was revealed before the Migration to Habash. We learn from authentic Traditions that Hadrat Ja’afar recited v. 1-40 of this Surah in the court of Negus when he called the migrants to his court.

Historical Background

We have already briefly referred to the conditions of that period in the introduction to Surah Al-Kahf. Here we shall give rather fuller details of the same conditions, which will be helpful in grasping the meaning of this Surah and the other Surahs of the period.

When the chiefs of the Quraish felt that they had failed to suppress the Islamic movement by ridicule, sarcasm, and by holding out promises and threats and by making false accusations, they resorted to persecution, beating and economic pressure. They would catch hold of the new Muslims of their clans and persecute them, starve them and would even inflict physical torture on them in order to coerce them to give up Islam. The most pitiful victims of their persecution were the poor people and the slaves and the proteges of the Quraish. They were beaten black and blue, were imprisoned and kept thirsty and hungry and were dragged on the burning sands of Makkah. The people would get work from the professional laborers but would not pay them their wages. As an instance we give below the story of Hadrat Khabbab bin Arat, which is given in Bukhari and Muslim:

“I used to work as a blacksmith in Makkah. Once I did some work for As bin Wa’il. When I went to ask for my wages, he said, ‘I will not pay your wages unless you disown Muhammad’.”

In the same connection Hadrat Khabbab says, “One day the Holy Prophet was sitting in the shadow of the Ka’abah. I went to him and said, ‘0 Messenger of Allah, now persecution has gone to its extreme; why do you not pray to Allah (for relief)?’ At this the Holy Prophet was greatly moved. He said, ‘The believers before you were persecuted much more than you. Their bones were scraped with combs of iron and their heads were cut with saws, but still they did not give up their Faith. I assure you that Allah will fulfill this Mission, and there will come a period of such peace that one would travel from Sanna to Hadramaut, and he will have no fear from anyone, save Allah. But you people have already become impatient’.” (Bukhari)

When the conditions became unbearable, the Holy Prophet, in the month of Rajab of the fifth year of Prophethood, gave advice to his Companions to this effect: “You may well migrate to Habash, for there is a king, who does not allow any kind of injustice to anyone, and there is good in his land. You should remain there till the time that Allah provides a remedy for your affliction”.

Accordingly, at first, eleven men and four women left for Habash. The Quraish pursued them up to the coast but fortunately they got a timely boat for Habash at the sea-port of Shu’aibah, and they escaped attest. Then after a few months, other people migrated to Habash and their number rose to eighty-three men and eleven women of the Quraish and seven non-Quraish. After this, only forty persons were left with the Holy Prophet at Makkah.

There was a great hue and cry in Makkah after this Migration, for every family of the Quraish was adversely affected by this. There was hardly a family of the Quraish which did not lose a son, a son-in-law, a daughter, a brother or a sister. For instance, there were among the Migrants the near relatives of Abu Jahl, Abu Sufyan and other chief of the Quraish who were notorious for their persecution of the Muslims. As a result of this, some of them became even more bitter in their enmity of Islam, while there were others who were so moved by this that they embraced Islam. For instance, this Migration left a deep mark on Hadrat Umar. One of his relatives, Laila, daughter of Hathmah, says, “I was packing my luggage for Migration, while my husband, Amr bin Rabiy’ah, had gone out. In the meantime Umar came there and began to watch me, while I was engaged in preparation for the journey. Then he said, ‘Are you also going to migrate?’ I answered, ‘Yes by God, you people have persecuted us much. But the wide earth of Allah is open for us. Now we are going to a place where Allah will grant us peace’. At this, I noticed such signs of emotion on the face of Umar as I had never seen before. He simply said, ‘May God be with you’ and went away.”

After the migration, the Quraish held consultations, and decided to send Abdullah bin Abi Rabiy’ah, half brother of Abu Jahl, and Amr bin As to Habash with precious gifts so as to persuade Negus to send the migrants back to Makkah. Hadrat Umm Salmah (a wife of the Holy Prophet), who was among the migrants, has related this part of the story in detail. She says, “When these two clever statesmen of the Quraish reached Habash, they distributed the gifts among the courtiers of the King and persuaded them to recommend strongly to him to send the migrants back. Then they saw Negus himself and, presenting rich gifts to him, said, “Some headstrong brats of our city have come to your land and our chiefs have sent us to you with the request that you may kindly send them back. These brats have forsaken our faith and have not embraced your faith either, but have invented a new faith”. As soon as they had finished their speech, all the courtiers recommended their case, saying, “We should send such people back to their city for their people know them better. It is not proper for us to keep them here.” At this the King was annoyed and said, “I am not going to give them back without proper inquiry. As these people have put their trust in my country rather than in any other country and have come here to take shelter, I will not betray them. At first I will send for them and investigate into the allegations these people have made against them. Then I will make my final decision”. Accordingly, the King sent for the Companions of the Holy Prophet and asked them to come to his court.

When the migrants received the message of the King, they assembled and held consultations as to what they should say to the King. At last they came to this unanimous decision: “We will present before the King the teachings of the Holy Prophet without adding anything to or withholding anything from them and leave it to him whether he lets us remain here or turns us out of his country”. When they came to the court, the King put this problem abruptly before them: “I understand that you have given up the faith of your own people and have neither embraced my faith nor any other existing faith. I would like to know what your new faith is.” At this, Jafar bin Abi Talib, on behalf of the migrants, made an extempore speech to this effect: “O King! We were sunk deep in ignorance and had become very corrupt; then Muhammad (Allah’s peace be upon him) came to us as a Messenger of God, and did his best to reform us. But the Quraish began to persecute his followers, so we have come to your country in the hope that here we will be free from persecution”. After his speech, the King said, “Please recite a piece of the Revelation which has been sent down by God to your Prophet”. In response, Hadrat Jafar recited that portion of Surah Maryam which relates the story of Prophets John and Jesus (Allah’s peace be upon them). The King listened to it and wept, so much so that his beard became wet with tears. When Hadrat Jafar finished the recital, he said: “Most surely this Revelation and the Message of Jesus have come from the same source. By God I will not give you up into the hands of these people”.

Next day `Amr bin `As went to Negus and said, “Please send for them again and ask them concerning the creed they hold about Jesus, the son of Mary, for they say a horrible thing about him”. The King again sent for the migrants, who had already learned about the scheme of Amr. They again sat together and held consultations in regard to the answer they should give to the King, if he asked about the belief they held about Prophet Jesus. Though this was a very critical situation and all of them were uneasy about it, they decided that they would say the same thing that Allah and His Messenger had taught them. Accordingly, when they went to the court, the King put them the question that had been suggested by Amr bin As. So Jafar bin Abi Talib stood up and answered without the least hesitation: “He was a Servant of Allah and His Messenger. He was a Spirit and a Word of Allah which had been sent to virgin Mary.” At this the King picked up a straw from the ground and said, ‘Bye God, Jesus was not worth this straw more than what you have said about him.” After this the King returned the gifts sent by the Quraish, saying, “I do not take any bribe”. Then he said to the migrants, “You are allowed to stay here in perfect peace.”

Theme and Subject

Keeping in view this historical background, it becomes quite obvious that this Surah was sent down to serve the migrants as a “provision” for their journey to Habash, as if to say, “Though you are leaving your country as persecuted emigrants to a Christian country, you should not in the least hide anything from the teachings you have received.” After relating the story of Prophets John and Jesus in v. 1-40, the story of Prophet Abraham has been related (v. 41-50) also for the benefit of the Migrants for he also had been forced like them to leave his country by the persecution of his father, his family and his country men. On the one hand, this meant to console the Emigrants that they were following the footsteps of Prophet Abraham and would attain the same good end as that Prophet did. On the other hand, it meant to warn the disbeliever, of Makkah that they should note it well that they were in the position of the cruel people who had persecuted their forefather and leader, Abraham, while the Muslim Emigrants were in the position of Prophet Abraham himself.

Then the mention of the other Prophets has been made in v. 51-65 with a view to impress that Muhammad (Allah’s peace be upon him) had brought the same way of Life that had been brought by the former Prophets but their followers had become corrupt and adopted wrong ways.

In the concluding passage (v. 66-98), a strong criticism has been made of the evil ways of the disbelievers of Makkah, while the Believers have been given the good news that they would come out successful and become the beloved of the people, in spite of the worst efforts of the enemies of the Truth.

Bevezetés a Miriam (Mária) Szúrához

Elnevezés

A 16. versben hangzik el a Szúra címe, Miryam, Mária.

A kinyilatkoztatás ideje

Riasztó hatású elnyomást alkalmaztak, ami a fizikai bántalmazáson, kínzáson túl, éhínségbe, nyomorba taszította a hívőket.

Elkészültem egy munkával As bin Wa1il számára.

A menekülők mély nyomot hagytak Omarban. Mondtam: Igen Allahra! Ti, emberek annyit üldöztetek minket! De Allah földje tágas számunkra. Most oda megyünk, ahol Allah békességet ad nekünk.

A tudatlanság mélyére süllyedtünk, romlottak lettünk.

Amint az udvarba értek, a király nekik szegezte a kérdést, amit Amr bin As javasolt.

Ábrahám esete a hitetlenek számára is tanulság, hiszen bemutatja, hogy ők azok, akik ugyanazt a szerepet játsszák a Muszlimokkal, amit annak idején Ábrahám családja játszott ősatyjukkal, Ábrahám Prófétával szemben.

(19 : 64)
64. (The angels say:) “We descend not but by command of thy Lord: to Him belongeth what is before us and what is behind us, and what is between: and thy Lord never doth forget,-

(19 : 65)
65. “Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and of all that is between them; so worship Him, and be constant and patient in His worship: knowest thou of any who is worthy of the same Name as He?”

(19 : 66)
66. Man says: “What! When I am dead, shall I then be raised up alive?”

(19 : 67)
67. But does not man call to mind that We created him before out of nothing?

(19 : 68)
68. So, by thy Lord, without doubt, We shall gather them together, and (also) the Evil Ones (with them); then shall We bring them forth on their knees round about Hell [37];

(19 : 69)
69. Then shall We certainly drag out from every sect all those who were worst in obstinate rebellion against ((Allah)) Most Gracious.

69. Majd kiszedegetjük minden szektából azokat, akik legádázabbak voltak a Kegyelmessel (Allahhal) szemben.

(19 : 70)
70. And certainly We know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein.

(19 : 71)
71. Not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished [38].

(19 : 72)
72. But We shall save those who guarded against evil, and We shall leave the wrong-doers therein, (humbled) to their knees.

(19 : 73)
73. When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, the Unbelievers say to those who believe, “Which of the two sides is best in point of position? Which makes the best show in council?”

(19 : 74)
74. But how many (countless) generations before them have we destroyed, who were even better in equipment and in glitter to the eye?

(19 : 75)
75. Say: “If any men go astray, ((Allah)) Most Gracious extends (the rope) to them, until, when they see the warning of Allah (being fulfilled) – either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour,- they will at length realise who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces [39]!

(19 : 76)
76. “And Allah doth advance in guidance those who seek guidance: and the things that endure, Good Deeds, are best in the sight of thy Lord, as rewards, and best in respect of (their) eventual return.”

(19 : 77)
77. Hast thou then seen the (sort of) man who rejects Our Signs, yet says: “I shall certainly be given wealth and children [40]?”

(19 : 78)
78. Has he penetrated to the Unseen, or has he taken a contract with ((Allah)) Most Gracious?

78. Áthatolt-e a Láthatatlanon, vagy egyezséget kötött tán a Kegyelmessel (Allahhal)?

(19 : 79)
79. Nay! We shall record what he says, and We shall add and add to his punishment.

79. Mi több! Feljegyezzük, amit mond és hosszúra nyújtjuk szenvedését.

(19 : 80)
80. To Us shall return all that he talks of and he shall appear before Us bare and alone.

(19 : 81)
81. And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them power and glory!

81. Allahon kívül vesznek isteneket, hogy azok álljanak mögöttük hatalmukban.

(19 : 82)
82. Instead, they shall reject their worship, and become adversaries against them [41].

(19 : 83)
83. Seest thou not that We have set the Evil Ones on against the unbelievers, to incite them with fury [42]?

(19 : 84)
84. So make no haste against them, for We but count out to them a (limited) number (of days).

84. Ne siess ellenük, (ó Mohammed), mi (elkezdtük) számukra a visszaszámolást.

(19 : 85)
85. The day We shall gather the righteous to ((Allah)) Most Gracious, like a band presented before a king for honours,

(19 : 86)
86. And We shall drive the sinners to Hell, like thirsty cattle driven down to water [43],-

86. És a bűnösöket a Pokol itatóhelyére hajtjuk [43].

(19 : 87)
87. None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from ((Allah)) Most Gracious.

(19 : 88)
88. They say: “((Allah)) Most Gracious has begotten a son!”

88. Mondják: „A Kegyelmes gyermeket nemzett!”

(19 : 89)
89. Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous [44]!

89. Mert bizony, szörnyű dologgal jöttetek [44]!

(19 : 90)
90. At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin,

(19 : 91)
91. That they should invoke a son for ((Allah)) Most Gracious.

91. Mert a Kegyelmesnek (Allahnak) gyermeket tulajdonítanak.

(19 : 92)
92. For it is not consonant with the majesty of ((Allah)) Most Gracious that He should beget a son [45].

92. Nincs szüksége a Kegyelmesnek (Allahnak) arra, hogy gyermeket nemzzen [45].

(19 : 93)
93. Not one of the beings in the heavens and the earth but must come to ((Allah)) Most Gracious as a servant.

(19 : 94)
94. He does take an account of them (all), and hath numbered them (all) exactly [46].

94. Mert Ő az összest számba veszi, pontosan [46].

(19 : 95)
95. And everyone of them will come to Him singly on the Day of Judgment.

95. És azok mind eljönnek egyesével a Feltámadás Napján.

(19 : 96)
96. On those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, will ((Allah)) Most Gracious bestow love.

96. A Kegyelmes (Allah) szeretetébe fogadja azokat, kik hisznek és jókat cselekszenek.

(19 : 97)
97. So have We made the (Qur’an) easy in thine own tongue, that with it thou mayest give Glad Tidings to the righteous, and warnings to people given to contention.

(19 : 98)
98. But how many (countless) generations before them have We destroyed? Canst thou find a single one of them (now) or hear (so much as) a whisper of them [47]?

  • 98. Hány nemzedéket pusztítottunk már el előttük? Érzékelsz-e közülük (ó Mohammed) egyet is, vagy hallasz-e róluk akár leghaloványabb (híreket) [47]?

MAJOR SIGNS OF THE LAST DAY
Articles – Signs of Last Day

    Wednesday, 10 Rajab 1428
    by Ulema Imran Hossein
    LAST DAY MEANS LAST AGE

The term ‘Last Day’ in reality stands for the ‘Last Age’, or the age which would culminate in the end of history—when the true Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary (not son of God), would return to rule the world from Jerusalem with justice and ‘eternal’ rule. It would be ‘eternal’ in the sense that history would end with that event. Life on earth beyond that event, and after Jesus dies a human death and is buried next to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon them both) in Madinah, would not qualify as history. This would be so since the modern secular rope would have reached its predictable end in total godlessness, and with such a consequent collapse of morals, and of moral consciousness, that people would forget their human status and “would engage in sexual intercourse in public like donkeys”. Already it is quite clear that we are quite close to the fulfillment of that ominous prophecy made by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

So much so then, for the spurious claims of the Judeo-Christian western civilization and its ‘colored house slaves’ around the world. They claim that mankind is witnessing unprecedented progress, that the present is the best of all ages that the world keeps on growing better and better and that modern western civilization has rendered all previous civilizations, including Islam, moribund and obsolete!

When a ship is sinking and you cannot prevent it from sinking, you have to get off that ship, and urge others as well to do so. The ship of the world is now sinking! The evidence is all around us as plainly visible as daylight! But those who are blind cannot see that the ship is sinking. They use their checkbooks, or the barrels of their guns, to impose themselves around the world as leaders. The blind then lead the blind until all are lost and will be drowned like the people of Noah (peace be upon him).

Prophet Muhammad prophesied many more signs of the Last Day other than public ‘donkey sex’. Most of these are known as the ‘minor’ signs. Let us describe some of them (randomly selected) before we turn to the ten ‘major’ signs in which we venture to include the major underwater earthquake and resultant Tsunami in South East Asia that occurred in late December 2004.

    MINOR SIGNS

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) prophesied of the Last Age that:

    • “People would follow a way of life other than mine, and give guidance other than mine”…“I fear for my people only the leaders who lead men astray”…“Before the Last Hour there will be great liars, so beware of them”…“When the most wicked member of a tribe becomes its ruler, and the most worthless member of a community becomes its leader, and a man is respected through fear of the evil he may do, and leadership is given to people who are unworthy of it, expect the Last Hour”. All of these warnings have already been dramatically and ominously fulfilled. This ominous sign of the Last Day has come to pass, yet there are so many who do not, or cannot see, and they blindly rush as dumb cattle to endorse or to follow such leaders for personal gain, or fear, or due to sheer ignorance;

    • “Women would dress like men”, and we already see them today with trousers, jacket and, perhaps, a tie; and “women would be dressed and yet be naked”, and this prophecy, also, is now fulfilled.

    • “Men would dress like women”, and already this sign also has come to pass. Almost no one can tell that ‘she’, the so-called ‘crossdresser’, is really a man;

    • Homosexuality (and lesbianism) would become commonplace, and that is now happening before our very eyes. Social acceptance and legal protection for this is gaining ground. Indeed those who hold fast to the divine prohibition of such sexual perversion are now demonized as a people who suffer from a disease called ‘homophobia’;

    • Children born outside of marriage would become commonplace, in fact marriage itself now seems destined to become obsolete;

    • Fornication and adultery would become commonplace, that, also, appears to have already been fulfilled in a modern world in which virginity and marital fidelity are becoming old-fashioned;

    • Disproportion in balance of men and women to such an extent that “one man would have to maintain (not marry) fifty women”, that is yet to occur but could be linked to the impact on male sperm production of such things as environmental pollution and genetically modified food;

    • Universal consumption of alcoholic beverages, this “mother of all evils” has already become a horrendous plague in which no one is safe from the drunk driver; the unborn baby drinks when his mother drinks and suffers unimaginably for such; people, including Prime Ministers, drink and become drunk, and then behave in public like asses;

    • “Religious knowledge would disappear”, since the rightly-guided scholars of Islam are demonized, marginalized, “banned”, or declared to be “great security risks”. Only those scholars who can skillfully skip and dance to the tunes of those who control power are allowed the unfettered freedom to preach a sanitized cosmetic version of Islam acceptable to the godless rulers of the world. Institutions of Islamic learning are forced to submit to the control of those waging war on Islam. If they do not submit, they are shut down. Foreign students are prohibited from studying Islam in certain so-called Islamic Republics;

    • “Time would move swiftly—a year passing like a month—a month like a week—a week like a day” etc., and already the perception of swiftly moving time is a universal experience;

    • Such prevalence of random killing, murder and violence that “a killer would not know why he is killing and the one who is killed would not know why he is being killed”, and “every age is followed by one which would be worse”

    • “Nothing would remain of Islam but the name, and nothing would remain of the Qur’an but the traces (of its writing). (i.e., the Qur’an would not be studied, no one would follow its guidance, it would be recited mechanically etc.). The Masajid (mosques) would be grand structures but would be devoid of guidance and he Ulama (religious scholars of Islam who represent such people) would be the worst people beneath the sky. From them would emerge Fitnah (trials) and they would be the centers of Fitnah (since they betray Islam)” — there are many distinguished scholars of Islam who declare that this prophesy, also, has today found fulfillment. The evidence of such is overwhelming. The Islamic Khilafah (Caliphate) has been long destroyed, Zakat is no longer collected and distributed by the state, money itself is now corrupted, the universal Shirk of the modern state has corrupted all of mankind, Riba is universally prevalent, the Hajj would probably soon be abandoned;

    • Universal consumption of Riba (i.e, money lent on interest, and transactions which ‘rip off’ people through deception in business, etc.) Around the world today Riba in modern banking and insurance, as well as in the monetary system, has already taken total control over the market and over economic life. There are some minor signs which have been couched in enigmatic language such as,

    • “A slave woman would give birth to her mistress”, everybody is free to think about its meaning and;

    • “Naked barefooted shepherds would vie with one another in the construction of high-rise buildings”. This is already being fulfilled when wealth is wasted in grandiose and expensive public relations construction projects commissioned by people who hanker for visible symbols of status in a modern world which recognizes the rich as a ‘somebody’ and the poor as a ‘nobody’ (see story of the rich man and the poor man in Surah al-Kahf of the Qur’an).

And then there are minor signs which have not as yet occurred such as:

    • “The Last Hour would not come until there issues from the land of the Hejaz (which is in Saudi Arabia) a fire which will illuminate the backs of the camels in Busra”. What it can be? A nuclear attack? We don’t know. So many of these minor Signs of the Last Day, and so many more not here mentioned, have already occurred, that we can now turn to the major Signs with a clear recognition that we are already living in that Last Age.

    MAJOR SIGNS

Hudhayfah ibn Usayd Ghifari, the companion of the Prophet, said,

“Allah’s Messenger came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He asked: What are you discussing? (The Companions) replied: We are discussing (the subject of) the Last Hour. Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten signs. And (in this connection) he made a mention of the ‘smoke’, ‘Dajjal’, the ‘beast’, the ‘rising of the sun from the west’, the ‘descent of Jesus son of Mary’, ‘Gog and Magog’, ‘sinkings of the earth in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia’ at the end of which ‘fire would burn forth from Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly’ (i.e., the place where mankind will be assembled for judgment).”

    (Sahih Muslim)

Here, then, are the ten major Signs of the Last Day as prophesied by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him):

    • Dajjal — the false Messiah or Anti-Christ,

    • Gog and Magog,

    • Smoke,

    • The beast of the earth or land (most likely the holy land),

    • The sun would rise from the west,

    • Three sinkings of the earth

    • one in the east

    • One in the west

    • and One in Arabia,

    • A fire would come out of Yemen and would drive people to their place of assembly (for judgement),

    • The son of Mary would descend.

Although these signs were not given by the blessed Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) in their chronological order of occurrence I have made an effort to put them in that order, with the ones that have not as yet occurred at the bottom of the list. We know from the prophecies of the blessed Prophet that the third major ‘sinking of the earth’, i.e., the one that would occur in Arabia, would swallow an army that would be heading south to Makkah. That army would be on its way to attack Imam al-Mahdi, the descendent of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him). It was prophesied that he would restore the Islamic Caliphate (or Islamic model of a state) in the Arabian Peninsula. It is after that sign has occurred (i.e., the third major earthquake) that the son of Mary would descend from the sky with his hands resting on the wings of two angels, and would kill Dajjal the False Messiah or Anti-Christ. The Qur’an itself has described Jesus (i.e., the return of Jesus) as the ‘ilm (which here means the very key to the subject) of the Last Hour:
“And he (i.e., Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow Me: this is a Straight Way.”

    (Qur’an, Zukhruf, 43:61)

It follows that his return must come chronologically at the end of the list. We also know that the ‘fire’ from Yemen would follow the third earthquake. And so now that it appears that the major earthquake in the East has occurred, we await four more major signs that still remain to occur.

    DAJJAL

Dajjal the False Messiah or Antichrist was released into the world in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him). He has already completed the first stage of his mission that lasted for “a day like a year”, and is about to complete the second stage that lasts for “a day like a month”. The third and last stage of his mission (of impersonation of the true Messiah) that would last for just “a day like a week.”
He is the one who is going to rule the world which is affiliated by the approach of Gog and Magog. He is going to realize a sort of Apocalypse which is not from Allah. He is the hero of an artificial Armageddon in order to get the power over the world and rule it from Jerusalem.
The world will lose the capacity of minds; the brains will be empty of thoughts so it will be easy to push people into mass slavery. This is the age of Dajjal who will come from the air as the dominion of air also belongs to the signs of the Judgment Day. This dominion means the use of air in transport, communication, ruling the electromagnetic waves, application of space for keeping the power. Dajjal has only one eye. There will be a word written on his forehead what can be seen clearly for even those who cannot see properly. This word is: KAFIR which means unbeliever. In the Islamic symbolism the one eye doesn’t mean physical one eye capacity. The eye is only the physical organ of the vision but there is another kind of vision which is stipulated in the Quran (Cave sura). This is the vision by heart which means spiritual, constructive and human-face vision. This sort of vision is called in Islam: Basira. (Mihalffy)
    GOG AND MAGOG

Gog and Magog were released into the world in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him). The Qur’an itself has made mention (Qur’an, al-Anbiyah, 21: 94-5) of a ‘town’ which was destroyed by Allah Most High, and the people of the town expelled, and then banned from returning to reclaim their town until Gog and Magog were not only released but, also, had spread out (around the world) in all directions.
“But there is a ban on a town which We have destroyed: that they (the people of the town) shall not return (to reclaim that town as their own); until Gog and Magog are let through (their barrier), and they swiftly spread out in every direction (replicating themselves amongst all the peoples of the world).”

    (Qur’an, al-Anbiyah, 21:95-96)
Gog and Magog rule the world. In the Islamic symbolism Gog and Magog are not persons but they represent a kind of approach or view towards the world. This approach is anti-human and destructive. This approach legitimates the superiority and domination over others. (Mihalffy)

    DUKHAN (SMOKE)

This appears to be totality of environmental pollution (not just smog and haze) that is already wreaking havoc on the earth itself and is bringing about global warming with the consequent impact of earthquakes, hurricanes, flooding etc. The modern industrial economy that Dajjal has authored, appears to be the greatest culprit of environmental pollution in the world today. It is important that we note that there are several Ahadith in Sahih Bukhari that declare the sign of Dukhan (smoke) already appeared in the lifetime of the blessed Prophet.
D’ABBATUL ARD (THE BEAST OF THE LAND OR EARTH)

I have argued in ‘Jerusalem in the Qur’an’ that the beast of the earth’ is, in fact, the imposter State of Israel that now occupies the Holy Land. The learned Shaikh, Safar al-Hawali, holds the view that the ‘beast’ is the Zionist Movement. And Allah Knows best!
The opinion of the editor and interpreter differs from the opinions of the Learned Ulemas. It is not good if we consider a particular event as a Divine Sign imagined by us. If we do like that every day will produce a new event which will prevail the event of the day before. Allah and his Prophet (Peace be upon him) have left for us more general and longstanding thoughts and way of thinking. (Mihalffy)
THE SUN WOULD RISE FROM THE WEST

Those who interpret this sign literally assume that the order of nature would be reversed despite the Qur’anic declaration that there can be no change in Allah’s creation (of that natural order):

“So set thou thy face steadily and truly to the faith: (establish) Allah’s handiwork according to the pattern on which He has made mankind: no change (can there be) in Allah’s creation: that is the standard religion: but most among mankind understand not.”

    (Qur’an, al-Rum, 30:30)

They also do so despite the specific declaration of Prophet Abraham (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) that his Lord-God causes the sun to rise from the East. Abraham then proceeded to challenge the King to cause the sun to rise from the West if he possessed power greater than Allah’s:

    Abraham said:

“My Lord is He Who giveth life and death.” He said: “I give life and death.” Said Abraham: “But it is Allah that causeth the sun to rise from the East do thou then cause it to rise from the West!” Thus was he confounded who (in arrogance) rejected Faith. Nor doth Allah give guidance to a people unjust.

    (Qur’an, al-Baqarah, 2:258)

And so they wait for that western sunrise as an event that would literally occur, while ignoring the basic rule that no Hadith can contradict the Qur’an.

But this sign has provoked numerous other non-literal interpretations, all of which agree that it has already occurred. Our view is that the rising of the sun from the West symbolizes an upside– down world in which mankind is led by their noses to a way of life which would be the very opposite of that natural way ordained by Allah. Natural money, for example, so identified in the Qur’an, is derived from precious metals. When such money is in short supply in a market such as Medina’s, then a substitute in the form of commodities such as wheat, barley, dates, salt, etc., can temporarily take its place. Around the world today that natural money with intrinsic value has been displaced by artificial money with no intrinsic value and it is used as an instrument of oppression. That upside-down unnatural way of life has already been accepted by most of mankind. In this sense, therefore, the sun is already rising from the West. And Allah Knows best!

    THREE SINKINGS OF THE EARTH

Many terrible earthquakes have already occurred in history. They have no relevance to our subject. We are concerned with three major ‘sinkings of the earth’ that would occur at a specific moment in history, i.e., they would occur at a time that would herald the return of Jesus, the Messiah, the son of Mary, and Messenger of Allah Most High. One would occur in the East, the second in the West, and the third in Arabia. When the third one takes place, the world of Islam would suddenly and dazzlingly reenter the affairs of the Arabian Peninsula, as well as of the world, in the same revolutionary way that it did in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him). This appears to be the meaning of the last of the major signs (prior to the return of Jesus) mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him), i.e., that a fire would come out of Yemen and drive people to their place of assembly (i.e., for judgment) which is Arafat in Arabia.

Regarding earthquakes on the east and west there are “hot” regions where tectonic activity is high. Some interpreters regard the tsunami in 2004 in South East Asia as probably one of the Sings. However tectonic plates and their movements occur on the west as well like in Los Angeles, California.

However let’s turn towards the Arabian sinking in detail which is supported by several Hadis.
    THE THIRD EARTHQUAKE IN ARABIA

Narrated Aisha: Allah’s Apostle said, “An army would invade the Ka’aba and when the invaders reach Al-Baida’, all the ground would sink and swallow the whole army.” I said, “O Allah’s Apostle! How would they sink into the ground while amongst them would be their markets (the people who worked in business and not invaders) and the people not belonging to them?” The Prophet replied, “All of those people would sink but they would be resurrected and judged according to their intentions.”

    (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu’minin: The Prophet said: “Disagreement will occur at the death of a Caliph and a man of the people of Madina would come flying forth to Makkah. Some of the people of Makkah would come to him, bring him out against his will, and swear allegiance to him between the Corner and the Maqam. An expeditionary force would then be sent against him from Syria but would be swallowed up in the desert between Makkah and Madina.”

    (Sunan Abu Daud)

It is quite clear from the above prophecy of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) that the third earthquake would take place at the time of the advent of Imam al-Mahdi. Imam Mehdi comes in order to guide mankind to the right way. He is not the Messiah but he will help for Messiah as his assistant and imam.

THE RETURN OF THE TRUE MESSIAH, JESUS, THE SON OF MARY

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him) has spoken extensively and in minute details about the event of the return of Jesus (peace and blessings of Allah Most High be upon him). But that event is so rich and complex that it lies beyond the scope of this paper.
At the end Jesus, the real Messiah appears. But who will identify him? Even Dajjal states that he is the real Savior and he is supported by all power of Gog and Magog! Yahia, or with Biblical name: John the Baptist is the one! He will come to life again in Damascus and will identify Jesus as he used to do it. There is a mosque in Damascus named after him where his forthcoming is expected. The vehement arrogance and fight around Damascus gets now another meaning doesn’t it? Jesus gathers together those very few people who still remained on his way (no matter how we call them….their generic name here is: Muslim). The time of the final encounter comes when the reckoning with Dajjal takes place and the age of Gog and Magog comes to end. Jerusalem gets back to the way of God and people who used to follow Dajjal will be annihilated. This is the time of final Jihad and the Hour of the Truth. Then a black flag from Khorasan will be lifted up to the air and all who want the purification of Jerusalem has to stand behind it.
After the war imam Mehdi will get married, will establish his family and will die soon. However Jesus will bring forth the Land which is there in the prophecies. Jesus is a human so he will also die and the world passes on even after him according to its divine destiny. Whoever takes the right way will be rewarded with Eternal Light even in the Hereafter. But who takes the way of Dajjal will be lost. In the Judgment Day the graves will be uncovered, the books where all big and small things are registered will be opened and the reckoning will take place. The last trial is to cross on the narrow bridge which leads to the Heaven. However those who are blind due to their physical vision without having light which enables their heart to see will fall down from the narrow bridge to the eternal fire of the Hell. AZ UTOLSÓ ÓRA ELJÖVETELÉNEK NAGY JELEI

    Articles- Signs of Last Day

    Wednesday, 10 Rajab 1428

A világ hajója most süllyed! A legtöbbjüket „kis jeleknek” ismerjük. Véletlen kiválasztással bemutatunk párat közülük, mielőtt a „nagy jelekre” térnénk, melyek közül a víz alatti földrengések megszaporodása az egyik, aminek példáját 2004 Decemberében láthattuk a Délkelet Ázsiai cunami kapcsán

    KIS JELEK

Mohammed (béke reá) próféciája a Végítélet Napja eljöveteléről:

Ezek a figyelmeztetések, meglátások drámaian beteljesültek.

Szemünk előtt zajlódik a folyamat.
    • „Eltűnik a vallástudomány.”
A világ modern, bank-, biztosítási- és monetáris rendszerében a „Riba,” azaz kamat a kalkuláció alapja, ami átvette a gazdaság feletti kontrollt. Vannak további kis jelek, melyek rejtélyes nyelvezetűek, ezek közül megemlítjük a következőket:
    • „A rabszolganő megszüli úrnőjét.” Mindenki szabadon elgondolkodhat a jelentésen,
    • „Mezítlábas pásztorok versengenek egymással magas épületekben.” Ez a jelenség jellemző a mára, amikor a pénz, vagyon, primitív kezekbe kerül, üres emberek tékozlásáról, eszeveszett költekezési versengéséről szól a modern híradás.

A teljesség igénye nélkül felsoroltunk párat a Végítélet Napja eljövetelének kis jeleiből.

    NAGY JELEK

Hudhayfah ibn Usayid Ghifari, a Próféta követője közölte:

    • A Föld süllyedése három helyen:
    • Egy keleten
    • Egy nyugaton
    • Egy Arábiában
    • Tűzvész Jemenben, ami az embereket a Végítélet helyére tereli
    • Mária fia, Jézus leszáll a földre

    DADZSAL

Azaz a spirituális látás, a konstruktív, emberközeli látás.

Ide kapcsolódik a légszennyezéssel összefüggő üvegházhatás, a globális klímaváltozás, ami áradások, hurrikánok, stb. előidézője. A modern ipargazdaság, melyet Dadzsal ural, úgy tűnik, a környezetszennyezés legnagyobb tettese.

    VADAK

„Szegezd tekintetedet (ó Mohammed) a vallás felé, egyenesen.

Avagy Allah a Legjobb Tudója.

    A FÖLD SÜLLYEDÉSE

[1] The Mercy of Allah to Zakariya was shown in many ways: – in the acceptance of his prayer; – in bestowing a son like Yahya; and – in the love between father and son, in addition to the work which Yahya did as Allah’s Messenger for the world. See: 3:38-41. There the public ministry was the point stressed; here the beautiful relations between the son and the father.

[1] Allah több módon kimutatta kegyét Zakariás felé: 1. Elfogadta imáját. 2.

[2] In secret: because he feared that his own family and relatives were going wrong (19:5), and he wanted to keep the lamp of Allah burning bright. He could not very well mention the fear about his colleagues (who were his relations) in public.

Allah világosságát önmagában tartotta, ahogy kérését is felé.

[3] This preface shows the fervent faith of Zakariya. Zakariya was a prophet of the Most High Allah. His office was in the Temple, and his relatives were his colleagues. But he found in them no true spirit of the service of Allah and man. He was filled with anxiety as to who would uphold the godly ideas he had in mind, which were strange to his worldly colleagues.

[4] His was not merely a desire for a son. If it had been, he would have prayed much earlier in his life, when he was a young man. He was too full of true piety to put merely selfish things into his prayers. But here was a public need, in the service of the Lord.

[4] Zakariás nem csupán egy gyermekre vágyott. Ha ez lett volna a kívánsága, akkor fiatalabb korában is kérte volna Istentől a gyermekáldást. Nem önző vágyaival tűzdelte tele imáját, hanem az izgatta, miként örökíti tovább a Jákob nemzetségétől kapott Próféciát, Allah szolgálatát.

[5] It is doubtful whether Zakariya had any worldly property. But he had character and virtue, as a man of God, and this he wanted to transmit to his heir as his most precious possession.

[6] This was John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus. In accordance with his father’s prayer he, and Jesus for whom he prepared the way, renewed the Message of Allah, which had been corrupted. The Arabic form Yahya suggests “Life”. The Hebrew form is Johanan, which means “Jehovah has been Gracious. It does not mean that the name was given for the first time, for we read of a Johanan the son of Careah in 2 Kings 25:23, an otherwise obscure man. It means that Allah had, for the first time, called one of His elect by that name.

Héber változata a Johanan: Jehova, a Kegyelmes. János név ez előtt is volt, pl. olvashatunk róla a Királyok II. 25:23-ban, Johanan Careah fia. Itt ő az első János névre hallgató Próféta, aki Allahot szolgálja. Ez a vers jelentése.

[7] Every man was nothing just before he was created, i.e., his personality was called into being by Allah. Even if there are material processes in forming the body, in accordance with the laws of nature, the real creative force is the power of Allah. But here there is a subtler meaning. John was the harbinger of Jesus, preparing the way for him; and this sentence also prepares us for the more wonderful birth of Jesus himself, see verse 21 below. Everything is possible with Allah.

[8] Compare this verse with 3:41. The variations are interesting. Here it is “for three nights”: there it is “for three days”. The meaning is the same, for a day is a period of 24 hours. But the point of view is different in each case. – There it was from the point of view of the Ummah or Congregation, among whom he worked by day; – here the point of view is that of his individual soul, which spent the nights in prayer and praise.

[8] Hasonlítsuk össze a 3:41 verssel. Érdekes összefüggést találunk. Itt „három éjjel” szerepel, ott pedig „három nappal”. A jelentés ugyanaz.

[9] Time passes. The son is born. In this section of the Surah the centre of interest is Yahya, and the instruction is now given to him.

[10] John the Baptist did not live long. He was imprisoned by Herod, the tetrarch (provincial ruler under the Roman Empire), whom he had reproved for his sins, and eventually beheaded at the instigation of the woman with whom Herod was infatuated. But even in his young life, he was granted, – wisdom by Allah, for he boldly denounced sin; – gentle pity and love for all Allah’s creatures, for he moved among the humble and lowly, and despised “soft raiment”; – and purity of life, for he renounced the world and lived in the wilderness. All his work he did in his youth. These things showed themselves in his conduct, for he was devout, showing love to Allah and to Allah’s creatures, and more particularly to his parents (for we are considering that aspect of his life): this was also shown by the fact that he never used violence, from an attitude of arrogance, nor entertained a spirit of rebellion against divine Law.

A szegénységet, lemondást választotta, ennek megfelelő öltözéket hordott, a szabadban élt.

[11] This is spoken as in the life-time of Yahya. Peace and Allah’s Blessings, were on him when he was born; they continue when he is about to die an unjust death at the hands of a tyrant; and they will be specially manifest at the Day of Judgment.

[12] The story of Mary as related in 3:42-51. Here the whole theme is different: it is the personal side of the experiences of the worshippers of Allah in relation to their families or environment. To a private eastern chamber, perhaps in the Temple. She went into privacy, from her people and from people in general, for prayer and devotion. It was in this state of purity that the angel appeared to her in the shape of a man. She thought it was a man. She was frightened, and she adjured him not to invade her privacy.

[12] Mária történetét a 3:42-51-ben olvashatjuk.

[13] Allah had destined her to be the mother of the Prophet Jesus Christ, and now had come the time when this should be announced to her.

[13] Allah elrendelte, hogy ő legyen a Próféta Jézus Krisztus anyja. Mária itt hallja meg az örvendetes hírt.

[14] The mission of Jesus is announced in two ways: 1. he was to be a Sign to men; his wonderful birth and wonderful life were to turn an ungodly world back to Allah; and 2. his mission was similar to that of all prophets of Allah. But the point here is that the people, to whom Jesus was sent, were a hardened race, for whom the message of Jesus was truly a gospel of Mercy.

For anything that Allah wishes to create, He says “Be”, and it is (3:47). There is no interval between His decree and its accomplishment, except such as He imposes by His decree. Time may be only a projection of our own minds in this world of relativity.

[14] Jézus küldetésének két fő szempontja volt: 1. Jel volt az embereknek. Születését és életét csodák övezték, melyek a hittől távol állókat is elgondolkodtatták Allah létéről. 2. A világ relatív, hiszen múló, anyagi jelenség.

[15] The annunciation and the conception, we may suppose, took place in Nazareth (of Galilee), say 65 miles north of Jerusalem. The delivery took place in Bethlehem about 6 miles south of Jerusalem. It was a remote place, not only with reference to the distance of 71 miles, but because in Bethlehem itself the birth was in an obscure corner under a palm-tree, from which perhaps the babe was afterwards removed to a manger in a stable.

[16] She was but human, and suffered the pangs of an expectant mother, with no one to attend on her. The circumstances being peculiar, she had got far away from her people.

[17] Unseen Providence had seen that she should not suffer from thirst or from hunger. The rivulet provided her with water also for ablutions.

[18] She was to decline all conversation with man or woman, on the plea of a vow to Allah. The “fast” here does not mean abstinence literally from eating and drinking. She has just been advised to eat the dates and drink of the stream. It means abstinence from the ordinary household meals, and indeed from human intercourse generally.

[19] The amazement of the people knew no bounds. In any case they were ready to think the worst of her, as she had disappeared from her kin for some time. But now she comes, shamelessly parading a babe in her arms! How she had disgraced the house of Aaron, the fountain of priesthood! We may suppose that the scene took place in the Temple in Jerusalem, or in Nazareth.

[19] Az emberek ámulatba estek. Mivel Mária eltűnt családjától, a legrosszabbra gondoltak és kétségekkel teli pletykák keltek lábra róla. Most megjelenik, kezében a kisdeddel! Szégyent hozott Áron, a papi rend elindítójának házára! A jelenet vagy Názáret, vagy Jeruzsálem templomában történhetett.

[20] Aaron the brother of Moses was the first in the line of Israelite priesthood. Mary and her cousin Elisabeth (mother of Yahya) came of a priestly family, and were therefore, “sisters of Aaron” or daughters of ‘Imran (who was Aaron’s father). See 3:35. Mary is reminded of her high lineage and the unexceptionable morals of her father and mother. How, they said, she had fallen, and disgraced the name of her progenitors!

[21] What could Mary do? How could she explain? Would they, in their censorious mood, accept her explanation? All she could do was to point to the child, who, she knew, was no ordinary child. And the child came to her rescue. By a miracle he spoke, defended his mother, and preached-to an unbelieving audience. See 3:46.

[22] There is a parallelism throughout the accounts of Jesus and Yahya, with some variations. Both the parallelisms and the variations are interesting. For instance Jesus declares at the very outset that he is a servant of Allah, thus negativing the false notion that he was Allah or the son of Allah.

    [23] 19:15. Christ was not crucified (4:157).

    [23] 19:15. Jézust nem feszítették keresztre (4:157).

[24] The disputations about the nature of Jesus Christ were vain, but also persistent and sanguinary.

[25] 3:180; 15:23, Material property passes from one to another: when one dies, another inherits it. Allah gives life and death, and all that survives after physical death goes back to Allah, the original source of all things.

[25] 3:180, 15:23. Az anyagi tulajdon egyik embertől a másikhoz vándorol. Egymástól megveszik, elveszik, vagy megöröklik a javakat. Az élet és halál Allahtól jön. Ami a fizikai halál után megmarad, Allahhoz tér vissza, Aki mindennek az eredeti forrása.

[26] The reference to Abraham here is in relation to his tender solicitude for his father, who had not received the light of Unity, and to whom Abraham wanted to be a guide and friend.

[27] Note the gentle persuasive tone of Abraham in his speeches in 19:42-45 and in 19:47-48, contrasted with the brusque and repellent tone of the father’s reply in this verse. The one was the outcome of the true Light which had come to Abraham from Allah, as the other was the outcome of Pagan arrogance and the worship of brute force. – the pious son is dutiful to his father and wishes him well in all things, material and spiritual, – if the father refuses Allah’s Light, the son will do his utmost to bring such Light to the father; – having received the Light, the son will never renounce that Light, even if he has to forfeit his father’s love and renounce his home; – even if the father repels him and turns him out, his answer will be a soft answer, full of love and forgiveness on the one hand, but firmness on behalf of Truth on the other.

[28] 9:114. where this promise of Abraham to pray for his father is referred to, and its limitations pointed out.

[29] Abraham left his father and the home of his fathers (Ur of the Chaldees) and never returned. He left because he was turned out, and because it was not possible for him to make any compromise with what was false in religion.

[29] Ábrahám elhagyta atyja és ősei otthonát a Káldeai Urt. Sohasem tért ide vissza. Nem önszántából ment, száműzték. Másrészt ő maga sem tudott hitével hamis hiedelmek között tovább élni.

[30] Isaac and Isaac’s son Jacob are mentioned here as carrying on one line of Abraham’s traditions. The other line was carried on by Isma’il, who is mentioned independently five verses lower down, as his line got special honour in the Holy Prophet of Islam. That is why his mention comes after that of Moses. 21:72.

[30] Ábrahám egyenes ági leszármazását, Izsákot és fiát, Jákobot említi a vers. A másik ágon született Izmael fia, akit külön sorban említ öt verssel lejjebb, mint aki különleges helyet foglal el a Prófétai genealógiában, hiszen ő volt Mohammed Próféta ősatyja. Ezért említik Mózes után, 21:72.

[31] Moses was; – especially chosen, and therefore prepared and instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, in order that he might free his people from Egyptian bondage; there may also be a reference to Moses’ title of Kalim Allah, the one to whom Allah spoke without the intervention of angels: see 4:164. – He was a prophet (nabi), in that he received inspiration; and – he was a messenger (rasul) in that he had a Book of Revelation, and an Ummah or organized Community, for which he instituted laws.

[32] The incident here I think refers to the incidents described more fully in 20:9-36; a reference may also be made to Exodus 3:1-18 and Exodus 4:1-17. The time is when Moses (with his family) was traveling and grazing the flocks of his father-in-law Jethro, just before he got his commission from Allah. The place is somewhere near Mount Sinai (Jabal Musa). Moses sees a Fire in the distance, but when he goes there, he hears a voice that tells him it is sacred ground. Allah asked him to put off his shoes and to draw near, and when he went near, great mysteries were revealed to him. He was given his commission, and his brother Aaron was given to him to go with him and aid him. It is after that, that he and Aaron went and faced Pharaoh in Egypt, as narrated in 7:103-144, etc. The right side of the mountain may mean that Moses heard the voice from the right side of the mountain as he faced it; or it may have the figurative meaning of “right” in Arabic, i.e., the side which was blessed or sacred ground.

[33] Moses was diffident, and reluctant to go to Pharaoh as he had an impediment in his tongue, and he asked that his brother Aaron should be associated with him in his mission. Allah in His Mercy granted his request; 20:25-36.

[33] Mózes félénken viselkedett, vonakodott a Fáraóhoz menni, mivel nyelve nem forgott jól, beszédhibája volt. Ezért kérte, hogy Áron csatlakozhasson hozzá. Allah biztosította számára ezt a kegyet. 20:25-36.

[34] Isma’il was Dhabih Allah i.e., the chosen sacrifice for Allah in Muslim tradition. When Abraham told him of the sacrifice, he voluntarily offered himself for it, and never flinched from his promise, until the sacrifice was redeemed by the substitution of a ram under Allah’s commands. He was the fountain-head of the Arabian Ummah, and in his posterity came the Prophet of Allah.

[35] Idris is mentioned twice in the Quran, viz.; here and in 21:85, where he is mentioned among those who patiently persevered. His identification with the Biblical Enoch, who “‘walked with God’ (Genezis 5:21-24), may or may not be correct. Nor are we justified in interpreting verse 57 here as meaning the same thing as in Genezis 5:24 (“God took him”), that he was taken up without passing through the portals of death. All we are told is that he was a man of truth and sincerity, and a prophet, and that he had a high position among his people.

[35] A Korán kétszer említi Idriszt.

[36] The earlier generations are grouped into three epochs from a religious point of view: – from Adam to Noah, – from Noah to Abraham, and – from Abraham to an indefinite time, say to the time when the Message of Allah was corrupted and the need arose for the final Messenger of Unity and Truth. Israel is another name for Jacob.

[36] A korábbi nemzedékeket három csoportban látjuk. 1. Ádámtól Noéig. 2 Noétól Ábrahámig. 3. Ábrahámtól pedig az időmeghatározás elmarad. Ettől kezdve új Próféta küldésére akkor került sor, amikor Allah Üzenetét megcsúfolták, korrumpálták és kellett valaki, aki visszaterelte a népet a helyes útra. Izrael és Jákob ugyanaz a személy.

[37] The disbelief in a future life is not merely a philosophic doubt, but a warped will, a disingenuous obstinacy in face of our inner spiritual instincts and experiences. We were nothing before. Cannot the same Allah, Who created us out of nothing also continue our personality? But if we refuse to accept His light and guidance, our state will grow worse and worse. We shall be deprived of His grace. We shall be herded with Satan. In utter humiliation we shall be faced with all the consequences of our refusal of Truth.

    [38] Three interpretations are possible.
    1. The general interpretation is that every person must pass through or by or over the Fire. Those who have had Taqwa (see 2:2) will be saved by Allah’s Mercy, while unrepentant sinners will suffer the torments in ignominy,
    2. If we refer the pronoun “you” to those “in obstinate rebellion” in verse 69 above, both leaders and followers in sin, this verse only applies to the wicked,
    3. Some refer this verse to the Bridge over Hell, the Bridge Sirat, over which all must pass to their final Destiny. This Bridge is not mentioned in the Quran.

    [38] Három felfogás lehetséges.
    2. Ha a többes szám második esetet „ti”, vesszük figyelembe, akkor a bűnösökre és követőikre érthető, ami a 69. vers gondolatával is egybevág.
    3. Néhányan ezzel a verssel hozzák összefüggésbe a Pokol felett vezető Hidat, melyen mindenkinek át kell haladni. Ez a híd nem szerepel a Koránban.

[39] Allah’s warning is that every evil deed must have its punishment, and that there will be a Hereafter, the Day of Judgment, or the Hour, as it is frequently called. The punishment of evil often begins in this very life. For instance, over-indulgence and excesses of all kinds bring on their Nemesis quite soon in this very life. In either case, the arrogant boasting sinners will realise that their taunt-who is best in position and in forces? (19:73)-is turned against themselves.

A gonosz megbüntetése gyakran a földi életben kezdődik. (19:73).

[40] Besides the man who boasts of wealth and power in actual possession, there is a type of man who boasts of getting them in the future and builds his worldly hopes thereon. Is he sure? He denies Allah, and His goodness and Mercy. But all good is in the hands of Allah. Can such a man then bind Allah to bless him when he rejects faith in Allah? Or does he pretend that he has penetrated to the mysteries of the future? For no man can tell what the future holds for him.

Senki sem tudhatja, mit hoz a jövő számára.

[41] 10:28-30, where the idols deny that they knew anything of their worship, and leave their worshippers in the lurch; and 5:119, where Jesus denies that he asked for worship.

[42] Under the laws instituted by Allah, when evil reaches a certain stage of rebellion and defiance, it is left to gather momentum and to rush with fury to its own destruction. It is given a certain amount of respite, as a last chance: but failing repentance, its days are numbered. The godly therefore should not worry themselves over the apparent worldly success of evil, but should get on with their own duties in a spirit of trust in Allah.

[43] Note the contrast between the saved and the doomed. – The one march with dignity like honoured ones before a king, – and the other rush in anguish to their punishment like a herd of cattle driven down by thirst to their watering place.

[43] Megfigyelhető a két ítélet közötti kontraszt. 1.

[44] The belief in Allah begetting a son is not a question merely of words or of speculative thought. It is a stupendous blasphemy against Allah. It lowers Allah to the level of an animal.

[44] Allah fiú nemzése nem hit, hanem spekulatív elmélkedés szüleménye. Blaszfémia, Allah Isteni valójának leértékelése, tagadása, hiszen állati attribútumokkal ruházzák fel Őt.

[45] This basic principle was laid down early in the argument (19:35). It was illustrated by a reference to the personal history of many messengers, including Jesus himself, who behaved justly as men to their kith and kin and humbly served Allah.

Akkor a Próféták személyes történetét illusztrálta a vers, akik közt Jézus is ott szerepelt.

[46] Allah has no sons or favorites or parasites, such as we associate with human beings. On the other hand every creature of His gets His love, and His cherishing care. Everyone of them, however humble, is individually marked before His Throne of Justice and Mercy, and will stand before Him on his own deserts.

[47] 19:74, from which this sentence is brought up as a reminiscence, showing the progress of sin, the Guidance which Allah gives to the good, the degradation of blasphemy, the respite granted, and the final End, when personal responsibility will be enforced.

[47] A 19:74 gondolatához térünk vissza és látjuk a bűn fejlődését, ami elvezet a blaszfémiáig, hiába kapott az ember Útmutatást. Amíg a haladék ideje tart, van megbánás. Ezután a személyes felelősség érvényesül egyedül.
